HC bars Dipjol from performing duty as BFAA general secretary

The High Court on Monday barred film actor Monwar Hossain Dipjol from performing duties as general secretary of the Bangladesh Film Artistes Association for six months.

The bench of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Kazi Zinat Hoque granted the stay on the election of Dipjol as BFAA general secretary after hearing a writ petition filed by Dipjol’s counterpart and actress Nipun Akhter.

HC asked the ministry of social welfare to investigate the allegations that Dipjol manipulated the election held on May 19 by bribing voters and ousting the agents from the polling station.

Misha Sawdagar has been elected as the new president of the Film Artistes Association for the term 2024-2026, while Monowar Hossain Dipjol secured the position of general secretary.

Misha Sawdagar received 265 votes, defeating his rival Mahmud Koli by 170 votes. Monowar Hossain Dipjol clinched the general secretary position with 225 votes, surpassing Nipun Akter who received 209 votes, falling short by 17 votes.
